Book Notes Pages 46 to 91

Page 47 The number of children with a medical complaint to excuse their bad behaviour (and incidentally prevent them from being expelled) rises every year. There is a booming business in finding things wrong with children that can only be treated with expensive new drugs.

Page 48 The General Teaching Council is an utterly useless organisation paid for by forced subscription by the teachers. It is universally detested but nobody did anything to stop it so frankly we get what we deserve. When I asked them recently to publicise a petition to ask the Government for more powers to discipline unruly pupils, they replied that they felt unable to do so.

Page 49 Just like in the NHS and every other Government funded occupation there are an army of hangers on who receive a good salary (usually more than those who actually do something useful) in return for spouting vast amounts of nonsense.

Page 50 There are thousands of Mr Jones' teaching in the schhols of Britain. They cannot be sacked, they simply get 'monitored', 'mentored' or sent on courses.

Page 51 Report Cards of different colours are popular in many schools nowadays. If pupils do not get enough good marks on them from lessons then they go onto the next colour. Many hours will have been spent choosing the colours of these, so as not to offend anybody or 'send a confrontational message'. No time will have been spent asking 'what do we do when they fail all the report cards?'
